AMERICANS, WHEN ARE WE GOING TO LEARN TO BOYCOTT THIS CRAZY COUNTRY???????????

Will it be well after the damage is done, and a lot of damage has come out of China already, or will we figure it out now??

Sad.

Have you read this story yet??

Chinese firms may get govt aid to sue Mattel

A Chinese provincial government is planning to help local toy manufacturers file a lawsuit against the world's biggest toy maker, Mattel, on grounds of damaging their reputation by recalling more than 21 million China-made toys from the market this summer.

The recall had "strained" the reputation of Chinese toy manufacturers and "made a large number of toy factories in Guangdong province lose a great deal of money," Chen, who is now in talks with American and Chinese lawyers on filing the suit against Mattel in a US court, was quoted as saying by the official China Daily.

The boycott needs to start with Mattel!

That is ok- we, America, are borrowing money from China to FUND THIS WAR!!! That's right, everyone, swallow that jagged little pill!

Is that just about the most disgusting thing you ever heard or what?

It is just a matter of time.

We are paying the price of outsourcing, plain and simple.

No one is forcing you to open your wallet and buy this dangerous junk!

If people would simply stop buying Made in China garbage, the companies would move manufacturing or go bankrupt - as you stated it's "plain and simple".

You need to shop at a different store

I recently purchased kitchen rigs, bathroom rugs, a steam iron, comforter & shams - NONE made in China

Everything but the iron was bought at Target!

The iron was from Linens-N-Things

Naw....you guys are nuts! I'm gonna get down to Walmart right now and get some of those suckers on sale! Hell, I can save a few bucks! So, I put some more Americans out of work and may poison my kids. Hey, life has it's risks!

Besides, those Americans who lost their jobs due to outsourcing have helped contribute to the huge corporate profits and the boom in the stock market. Their huge tax cuts they voted for in the last two elections PLUS the wealth that will eventually trickle down to them will carry them through. Don't forget the 10 trillion national debt, much of it financed by China, that the best President in history, The Great Decider, G. W. Bush, has incurred by bringing democracy to Iraq. Also, with oil now flirting with $100 per barrel, as opposed to $35 with that a$$hold Clinton, we have showed our appreciation to both Big Oil and our OPEC friends who make sure we have lots of gasoline to buy. Thank God for Neoconservatism! Where'd we be without it!

Actually, it's not funny at all. It's tragic. I don't really blame Bush DIRECTLY for this, although it does sound like I do. But, with some incentives to manufacture in the USA as opposed to overseas, and with increased volume, do you really think that TV would cost about $15,000? If so, we're screwed. At least as long as we want those neat products. I wish I knew how to figure cost of production with some shift in tax incentives that might bring jobs back home. I can't blame Bush for America's buying habits any more than I can blame Bush if I have a heart attack because I love to eat 6 Jack-In-The-Box tacos because they are only 2 for a buck and I've always loved 'em. But, right or wrong, I believe that as long as the current Bush policies continue to enrich those who need it least while making it hard for those who need help the most, then I'm against him.

avatar
Reply

Hmmmmmmm. If Jack In The Box doubled their wages, and doubled the price of those tacos to compensate, would I keep eating them. Hell yes, they're worth a buck to me. I haven't bought one of those TV's yet. They're still too expensive for me. Sheesh. I can have over 2,000 tacos or 1,000 burgers instead!

avatar
Reply

That's not the way economics works. Take Japan for instance. Japan is certainly comparable to the US and they make Sony TV's. They don't cost 12,000 times what one made in China costs.

avatar
Reply

But, of course, the Japanese make their TV's in China too.

avatar
Reply

Yeah, assuming the only factor in retail price is the labor involved in manufacture, and assuming that U.S. workers are no more productive than Chinese workers, that would make sense.

But both of those assumptions are invalid...

avatar

certainly NOT Walmart.

I just can't understand parents who continue to buy toys made in China!

Where was the quality control on this!

avatar
Reply

Holy kangaroo, who would have thought that beads when ingested would have chemicals on them that converts to the 'date rape' drug? Such a diabolical plot could only be conceived by an evil genius. Nah, just terrible quality control that didn't look at the composition of the ingredients and didn't know enough about chemical reactions especially if the beads came in contact with children. Once again safety controls were lacking. I thought testing product safety would have caught this? On either side of the ocean. Were there even any product testing or research? Or were the manufacturers and retail merchants only concerned with profits in the short term?

OMG!!!

Its the al Qaeda masterminds at work again!

They have infiltrated the Chinese factories.

No....they are working hand in hand with the Chinese to take over the world, one child & one toy at a time!

Agreed Nostalgia. Parents need to stop buying this stuff. The kids will survive without it. A lot better chances of surviving than receiving this stuff.

Good story

It doesn't matter what store you buy your toys from the majority of manufacture has been outsourced to China. With Christmas not far behind there will be a toy shortage. I have toys that I'm sure are made out of lead from long ago. We are going to put them into a collection, never to be played with.

Looks like the damaged already done to your brain when you had a toy made in China at your time. Made in China products started way before Regan Presidency, What does GWB having to do with this? You should be glad he had this administration discover this before the damage done any farther.

avatar
Reply

This looks like a design problem. The chemicals needed to make this product do what it does are apparently not suitable for use around young children who might ingest them. I expect this particular item will be gone forever - unless an alternate compound can be found.

As for boycotting Chinese made toys - excellent idea. Of course, Xmas will be a little THIN as 80% of all toys (last I heard) are now made in China. Go ahead, TRY to find an American made toy for little Johnnie or Suzy. If you do, please report back here as I expect many will be interested to know what you have found.

Nevermind, I Googled it myself. You might visit:

www.backtobasics.com for American or European made toys.

www.fatbraintoys.com has American made toys

www.FAO.com has a search for toys made in any of several different countries. (NOTE: If you didn't already know it, FAO Schwartz is NOT a cheap place to shop...)

www.madeinusa.org -= American made toys.

OK, that should be a good start. What say we all put a little Red, White, And Blue into Santa's bag this year? (I'm sorry, but you will play merry hell trying to find ELECTRONIC toys made here. Even if they are assembled here, it's very likely the electronics were made in China. )

Or, more precisely, try and find an American company who manufactures it's toys within the US.

China is not the Demon here. Many multi-nationals base a great portion of their manufacturing in China including hundreds of your own. GM, GE, Westinghouse, Motorola, Apple, Proctor & Gamble etc. Also European and Asian companies such as BMW, Audi, Siemens, Omron, Surftech etc etc the list is huge. Are their products garbage? Hardly! The buck stops with comapanies like Mattel and Wal-Mart who, in their increasingly rapacious desire for profits at any cost, continue to cut corners with poor quality control, dubious specs and corrupt management.

But I suppose it would be 'Un-American' to actually point the finger of blame at themselves.

This is absolutely astounding! I too went to a shop, just last week as a matter of fact, and most everything in there was "Made in China". And believe it or not....it was not a walmart, or sam's, or even a kmart.

STOP BUYING STUFF FROM CHINA!!!

No worries- just start earning more money!!!

avatar

This is our own fault, but when you say stuff like that it just reinforces the idea that this is all about money. If people won't pay an extra $2 for a shirt made in Mexico instead of in China then we'd better stop bitching when everything we have is made by the lowest possible bidder.

It's all about the money, but it's also all about the American consumer and American business. Again, stop buying stuff from China. They can't afford it at all and we can.

This is just one more reason why children need to be outside playing with sticks and rocks. I grew up in the 80's and every toy I had was hand made. Even then I spent more time outside playing Cops an Robbers, Hide and Seek, and all the other classics then I did inside with my toys.

(Except Voltron. Voltron rocks!)

I agree and I bet you're not fat too.

But how can kids these days get away from the new 'must have' toy when slick marketing campaigns constantly ram the message down their throats?

avatar
Reply

By their parents growing a pair and telling their kids NO. When I was young I was only allowed 2 hours of tv time a week. If a commercial came on for a toy that I wanted I would turn to my dad and he would just shake his head. I wouldn't even get a chance to ask. We only got toys on birthdays and Christmas. Even then 9 out of 10 were outside toys.

Go to Walmart and look at the labels where an item is made, take a magnifier by the way. I'm sick of seeing made in China on what they sell.

I will pay more for American made and was elated to find out cookies I received as a gift were from Scotland. Now if they said China they would have been in the trash like other gifts of the past. They sell crap and Walmart is sucking the life blood from middle class America while acting the part of benefactor. Don't believe it, they are vampires. Until they change and promote made in America they can go suck an egg, from China I hope.

That GOP wh0re Nancy Nord needs to be fired. NOW.

Most of my working career has been spent in quality assurance. Testing products should be a necessity! I use to pressure test tanks, that were used for oxygen, I would not want a fireman to be using a tank that had not been acid washed and pressure tested!

This is nothing more that greed and profits that benefit the few! Makes me wonder how these people can sleep at night!

Wonder what quality assurance working experience Mrs. Nord has in order to hold her job?

When are you going to realize that the Chinese don't give a damn about your children? We have welcomed them with open arms to a twenty-first century economy without ever considering their fourteenth-century mentality. We've done the same stupid sh!t with the middle east, given them riches beyond their wildest imagining, while they still have class wars and beat their women.

Anyone who thinks this is a partisan issue, please think again, the GOP is not unique in outsourcing to the lowest bidder and being all about the money.

You don't make the Clinton's millions by treating everyone fairly. You just don't.

When the bottom line is the bottom line, don't be surprised when you find yourself stuck at the bottom, in line.

"Anyone who thinks this is a partisan issue, please think again, the GOP is not unique in outsourcing to the lowest bidder and being all about the money."

You cannot possibly be serious. Outsourcing is one thing. Making it your party's mission to not only limit government but working aggressively to DESTROY it outright is another thing entirely. That absolutely IS unique to the GOP and I freaking DARE you to cite examples where the Democratic party has maliciously tried to limit government in the ways that this current filthy and criminal administration has. I dare you.

After I read the above postings, I drove down to the local WalMart out of curiosity and the place was jammed with people. I observed a lot of people with kids browsing the toy section. I would venture to say that most of these people have no clue about the controversy surrounding toys made in China. If they had heard about the safety concerns, they either didn't care or assumed that WalMart would not be selling the toys if they weren't safe. I wonder how consciously WalMart goes thru quality control of the products it sells? I wonder how consciously our government goes thru quality control of products imported to the US? Whose primary responsibility is quality control of imported products...the corporation that imports them or the government? Somebody should be looking out for the American consumer's safety.

How much money has Bush taken from these toy companys???

Does anyone remember??? China is a communist country....Why do our politicians allow this--easy--they are bribed...crooked pols--are there any other kind???? We should never re elect any pol...We should start to buy only made in America...Every imported item should be taxed...Our companys should not be able to screw the American worker..

FREE TRADE---that is how they screw the American worker..outsourcing--alowed by our bought off politicians...

I think the sad thing here for right now is that Christmas being so near. The children in the low-income bracket will be the ones that will not receive a lot of toys. The toy companies that are jumping on the made in America market right now are going in greedy and that is one of the factors that gave us world trade and outsourcing with Communist China and such.
