A grieving father told yesterday how he was forced to make a 'life and death' decision over which of his children to save when a family canoe trip turned to tragedy. TV presenter Ian Clayton's daughter Billie, nine, died after their canoe capsized, throwing them into fast-flowing water, along with Billie's twin brother Edward.

      The story mentioned that the man and his son wore lifejackets but didn't mention if the girl did. And if she did, then it didn't work to save her life. Maybe another type of flotation device is needed for fast-flowing water.

        That's far too dangerous a sport for little kids. I'd lived on the lake for many years and I've got a hell of a lot of bad stories. Far too dangerous! Rest in piece little soul.

        (I watched this on TV yesterday, and I don't think I'd survived all this as a father, because of the personal guilt)
