Bullying is a learned behavior, and it is usually learned at home.

I was bullied and beat up just about every day in the 6th grade by a bully. I hated going to school and no one did anything about it. Finally I guess I had enough and exploded and fought back and beat the crap out of the guy. The bully never touched me after that and wanted to be my best friend. Getting Bullied by someone can cause much anxiety and is a terrible thing.

There was a "slow" kid in my grade school who my best friend and I befriended around 5th grade. We never really hung out all that often but during school when everyone ignored him and some picked on him we always made sure to say hi and try and defend him.

One day at lunch recess* we saw him getting beat up by one of our class bullies. We quickly ran over, pulled him off and continued to beat the bully up. As we held him down and offered the "slow" kid the opportunity to get a few licks in, he declined and ran into school crying.

After lunch we get called into the principles office, we thought we were gonna get suspended, the bullies nose was bleeding but not broken. Instead the principal CONGRATULATED us and told us "next time try not to draw blood. There never was a next time.

The best way to stop a bully is for good kids to step up and put and end to it.

I wish someone would have to my rescue at the time. My bully ran in a pack of bad kids who tormented quite a few kids.

A severe and merciless beating from a crowd was well-deserved.

Bullies are stronger than their victims, and the cliche that they will go away if the victims fight like a man--and no punching below the belt--is like saying that all Mike Tyson's victims had to do was fight him according to the Marquess of Queensbury rules.

This article also trivializes bullying. The bullies I knew were sadistic psychopaths and criminal types. They had no conscience or morals, whatsoever, and they were four times more likely to become adult criminals than the general population. Since they lived in low crime neighborhoods, their criminal potential was probably never realized, but they were born to be enforcers for the mafia.

Exactly. My bully was just plain mean as hell and was a big muscular kid who punched me in the face and kicked me in the groin on a regular basis and of course his buddies got a big laugh out of it.I was terrified of this bully.

BTW, this bully was constantly in trouble with the school and the law.

it's more than bullying...it's social darwinism. the physically strong, power-seeker "culling the herd". and very effective it can be too, if the members of the herd or community don't fight back. but, fighting back requires a lot of courage, and most kids are so stunned by the threat of violence they fold.

i was bullied intolerably in 7th grade and it only worsened until my mother insisted i stand up to the bully. mom drove me to the girl's home and i stood outside calling her out. she never came, but her father did, ordering me off the property. i left and the girl and her clique never bothered me again.

You have misused the term "Social Darwinism." Perhaps you should read the explanations of its leading proponents, men like Herbert Spencer and Madison Grant.

Of course, what's passed over is that a lot of times "little bullies" wind up getting their ass handed to them as they get older, and learn a brutal lesson.

I think a majority of bullies think nerds don't have feelings. That is, until it's too late for the bully.

I remember one kid in second grade that used to bullied me.

I used to avoid him until he caught me in the school yard one day.

I was so fed up with him picking on me. I went nuts and started wailing on him.

The teach in the yard had to pull me off of him.

He ended up with a black eye, a bloody nose and lip.

He left me alone after that.
