This is a step in the wrong direction which is way out of proportion. Kids have been skipping school for generations, much longer than the GPS has been around. There are better ways to deal with this. Who will be the next group of citizens forced into this conformity which will eventually lead to despotism. The government is becoming more dangerous than the enemy they claim to protect us from.

Apparently you didn't listen either. The judge said truancy contributes to crime later in life. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that the kids are out commiting crimes while they are skipping. They very well may be breaking the law by smoking some dope or something like that. I don't think tghe judge has the right to order such a thing. I think there is a better way to deal with these kid than putting a gps device on them. As a parent I would fight it even if my kid was caught skipping alot. But then once the school informed me I would do something about it, (and did).

Are you saying you wouldn't put a GPS on one of your kids if they didn't show up to your home school classes?

You sound like one of those parents that never believe that their little darling do any wrong. I heard a parent complaining about the teacher and knew the reality of the situation. Her little darling was the culprit. I was doing work on computers at the school and was able to see it happen.

This is about a major truant problem the child is having not a minor skip. It means that the parent didn't help the school solve the problem.
Before you think seriously about teaching at home find out everything you need to know about the rules in your area. Also find out if your child will respond correctly to you doing the teaching. Failure to do both will lead to a disaster.-

Then you need to get your hearing checked, Endoscopy. I never said my children don't do anything wrong. It's just not the state's responsibility to make sure my kids are getting an education... it's mine.

I've educated my children at home for over 11 years now- quite successfully I might add.
AND don't even think I'm against teachers. I WAS a teacher. My brother and SIL still are. I completely understand what they're dealing with- they are underpaid and overworked. But how in the world does it help them to force kids that don't want to be there to be in their classroom? This all stems from the socialistic notion that the state somehow has a right to decide how, when and where to educate children.
Children DO NOT belong to the state. Compulsory education is a socialist policy.

What a load of garbage. Don't these kids have parents? I skipped school once in 10th grade and my dad literally kicked my ass. I learned my lesson and never did it again.

One of the big problem that teachers and schools face is there are a lot of parents that don't care or else believe their kid can do no wrong. Parents are requested to come to school to discuss some problem the child is having. Some never show up and others go in shouting and screaming about how the school or teacher is unfair to their little darling. My kids go to charter schools where that is not a problem because they will not put up with either behavior.

The Judge would never get a referral from the school because we are very involved with what our children do in school every day. We look at what comes home and are in email communication with all teachers. If they try to skip school the first thing we would get is phone message saying our child is not in school. They would never do it again.
For a School board to try something this extreme means that the parents of those children are the ones who don't respond by backing up the school when asked to about the skipping problem. This is not a foolish skip for a day or two but a major problem of the child not showing up for a lot of days, possibly weeks. The news story explained that these kids then many times get in trouble by breaking the law. That is the problem they are trying to solve. Keep them from going to jail for other crimes.-

I agree with what you say about the parents and their responiblity. However when you said:

The Judge is doing this because she believes that the kids who skip school will be more likely to commit crimes later in life. I think she is an activist judge trying to do a bit of social engineering from her bench. That is what we don't need.
What she needs to do is haul the parent(s) down to her courtroom and have them explain why their child was skipping school.

Once again neglectful parents and their undisciplined children put the state, and school district on the spot.My question is why do they want schools for anyway, if not too learn.

When their not in school,or at home they are usually looking something to do, and that can be trouble. There are things a lot worse than an ankle bracelet, the worse is daddy finds out about it.Ican't imagine a dad that would take the kids side.I could be wrong -
